WipeOut Papercraft

Forgot to add this, here is the original link to the WipeOut papercraft models. LINK

Visual Design, Comic Game Action, with a purpose.

Can't get enough of behind scenes of Tf2. The guys really thought out the art style to it so carefully.

Spriting

Doesn't matter how much games have advanced, cannae get away from the spriting!

Silhuette

LINK

The art of silhuette! I became more aware of that when the devlopers of Team Fortress 2 pointed out how they created their characters and used silhuettes at beginning in order to see if you could recognise their ingame characters with out the shading and textures. To them that is very important, as the game is quite fast paced and you don't have much time to look at your foes too much!

I became interested in silhuettes as that could improve my modeling techniques. A clean model would help my textures alot.

Team Fortress 2 Art Design

LINK

I been a great fan of TF2 ever since it came out. I been playing the team frotress franchise since the Team Fortress Classic days, but the with tf2 out , the art style is just so inspirational, too. With clever phong style material techniques the ingame models look like a 20th century commercial illustration. The game is 3 years old now and still competes with other big block buster first person shooters to this day. The game play has alot to do with it, but the art style surely helped alot, too. Simply put, it's timeless.

The link brings you to a video explaining the art style behind the game. Really good watch.

Develop 2009: Gameplay Not Everything, Says Dyack

"You can have 100-year-old films where narrative is very light and they are still enjoyable. However, I think we will move towards a place where games can be a success because of more than just their gameplay, because of their music, their internal architecture and so on." (Denis Dyack, founder of Silicon Knights)

LINK

The Walt Disney of Japan, without the fascist ideals and slave enducing labour enforcing in hi studios. He is very traditional with his animation style, yet doesn't shrug away when digital art comes into play.

"...it's very important for me to retain the right ratio between working by hand and computer. I have learnt that balance now, how to use both and still be able to call my films 2D"

Guillermo del Toro not happy with Konami

LINK
"Unfortunately, I've found in my videogame experience that the big companies are just as conservative as the studios"

I cannot believe how a studio can be so arrogant and not let Del Toro direct his own fricking game. His art style and approach to a story is very unique, very dumb to pass that away.

BRAID

This game, well the art style, is ver inspirational to me. You play this game again in 10 years time and it will still look good!

Papercraft

A czech artist who papercrafts everything sci fi! I found him throuhg a game blog about his Wipeout papercraft models. He seems to put alot of work into them, as he needs to make an accurate 3d model first, then texture them and position the maps correctly for print. Could be useful for me!

Atsuchi Inaba

The man behind Okami, just some basic info. LINK

Texturing a painting

Article

"Digital art works its magic on the traditional art landscape: having gained acceptance at a growing number of art schools, museums and galleries, digital art—or art created or manipulated on a computer—has become the world's newest art form"

Texturing for games

A good read on the Do's and Don't's of teturing in games

Your Meat is Mine

I love when tattoos are done, so they don't actually look like a tattoo. The tattoo artist is able to manipluate the needle in order to create another medium.

Using a game level as Art

A computer art student based in US did this piece a few yars ago. When I did research over summer I stumbled upon this video and immediately knew that I had to use the Source engine to make my piece. This architectural homage to Frank Lloyd is just such a detailed piece of awesomeness.

Philippe Starck thinks deep on design

http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/philippe_starck_thinks_deep_on_design.html

Been a great fan of him for a while. Everything he creates always looks so clean and so simple, yet most designs are on complex concepts and bases.
